Bradford Company Bosses To Face Tough Challenges For Charity

Bosses at Bradford-based contracting, manufacturing and shopfitting firm PEC have announced a bold schedule of fundraising stunts involving planes, sharks and mountains to raise money for the Cardiac Unit for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Over the coming year, PEC managing director Sohan Panesar plans to lead his colleagues in a daring campaign aimed at securing £40,000 for the Cardiac Unit.

The stunts kick off with tandem skydiving on Sunday 22 July at Hibaldstow Airfield in North Lincolnshire. Sohan and Phil Weatherill, of David Weatherill Architects, will jump harnessed to the front of a fully qualified parachuting instructor from 15,000ft and experience one whole adrenaline-fuelled minute of free fall reaching terminal velocity at 120mph.

A week later, after a campaign high, Sohan will be joined by fellow PEC director Suki Panesar for a chilling underwater experience at the Blue Planet Aquarium. The pair will come face to face with 12ft Sand Tiger Sharks in what promises to be an awesome close up experience.

Sohan Panesar said: “Sadly my grandfather spent many years suffering from a weak heart, and passed away on Father’s Day two years ago. He was a special individual who I always looked up to and was a great mentor for me. Therefore this charity has a personal meaning for me in memory of someone who was such an inspiration.

“We’re kicking off our 2012 campaign with a couple of crazy stunts which we hope will encourage more of our colleagues to get involved and support our fundraising efforts. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone to do their bit, and we’re hoping to make a real difference to the Cardiac Unit which will be a life-saver for many families.”

In September, PEC is organising an assault on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, with walkers from the company, its clients and suppliers hoping to raise a total of £20,000. Then on 15 February 2013, PEC will host a Valentine Ball, drawing the campaign to a celebratory close.

Cardiologist Dr Steven Lindsay said: “We in the Cardiac Unit in Bradford Hospitals are delighted that PEC are going to support our unit with their fundraising efforts. The next year will see all our staff working on a project to focus on further enhancing all aspects of our services. This additional charitable support will make a real difference to what this project can achieve for our patients.”
