Atlantic Academy Classroom Reconfiguration and External Spaces

Location

Dorset

P.E.C. were appointed this 5-phase project to reconfigure existing classrooms and external spaces at this large school on the Isle of Portland.

As the school was in term time during the construction phase it was a requirement that all onsite P.E.C. personnel be DBS certified.

The internal works to re-create the classrooms began with asbestos sampling, and the demolition and strip out of existing walls and ceilings.

Thereafter saw the development of the new classrooms which involved M&E works, internal partitioning, suspended ceiling and floor covering.

Decorating and the installation of combined acoustic and fire rated door sets completed the internal refurbishments.

Whilst externally rubber crumb play surfaces were laid to form a porous and safe play area accompanied by hooped metal fencing, with personnel and vehicle access gates.

The external works created substantial challenges for P.E.C. as the areas were known to of been bombed in WW2.

Luckily after an extensive risk mitigation of unexploded ordnance (UXO), by a specialist contractor, we were given the all clear and work continued without delay.
